Resting Metabolic Rate Testing in Alabaster & Homewood, AL and Johnson City, TN
Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest, and it is the foundation of every calorie target. Online calculators estimate it from age, height, and weight and are often off by hundreds of calories. Fitomics measures it directly with indirect calorimetry, then builds your nutrition plan from the measured number.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is resting metabolic rate testing?
Resting metabolic rate testing measures the oxygen you consume and the carbon dioxide you produce while lying quietly, then converts those gases into the calories your body burns at rest. It is the same indirect-calorimetry method used in clinical nutrition, and it replaces the formula estimate most diet plans start from.
How much does RMR testing cost at Fitomics?
Resting metabolic rate is included at no extra charge with the $300 Advanced Metabolic Assessment, a $75 value. It is also part of the Discovery and Comprehensive Exams, and FitCare Direct Primary Care members receive resting and active metabolic tests twice a year.
How should I prepare for an RMR test?
Come fasted for at least four hours, avoid caffeine, nicotine, and exercise beforehand, and arrive a few minutes early so you can settle. The measurement itself is about 15 minutes of lying still and breathing normally.
What will I learn from my RMR?
Your measured resting calorie burn, whether it is above or below the prediction for your size, and how much of your resting energy comes from fat versus carbohydrate. Your Fitomics team uses it to set calorie and macronutrient targets you can actually verify.
